Guardians of the Galaxy leads Square Enix E3 2021 showcase

Square Enix Presents featured an in-depth look at the new Eidos Montreal title, plus a brand new Final Fantasy game, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins

During its E3 2021 showcase, Square Enix announced that Eidos Montreal is working on a Guardians of the Galaxy title.

Releasing on October 26, 2021 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, it'll be a single-player story-driven game, with players' decisions impacting the narrative.

Eidos Montreal worked with Crystal Dynamics on Marvel's Avengers, which released last year to mixed reviews. Square Enix announced its 2021 roadmap for the title during its E3 presentation, including a free Black Panther expansion called War for Wakanda and due to release this summer.

Meanwhile, PlatinumGames's action RPG Babylon's Fall got a gameplay trailer, but no release date. The four-player co-op, hack and slash title will launch on PS5, PS4 and Steam.

The presentation also unveiled a new Final Fantasy title from Team Ninja, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, coming 2022. A demo is expected on PS5 soon.

Square Enix Presents also featured the Life is Strange franchise, with the Life is Strange Remastered Collection dated for September 30, 2021, and a first look at the empathic abilities of protagonist Alex Chen in the upcoming Life is Strange: True Colors from Deck Nine. The third mainline entry in the franchise is set to release on September 10 and -- a first for the series -- won't be episodic.

Over on mobile, the next Hitman Sniper game is expected by the end of the year. Earlier this year, we talked to Square Enix Montreal head of studio Patrick Naud about the project.

Other announcements included remasters of Final Fantasy 1 to 6 for Steam and mobile.
