Media Molecule teams up with theatre group Punchdrunk
Collaborating on a performance arts-meets-gaming project related to Dreams
World renown theatre group Punchdrunk is working with Media Molecule on a Dreams-inspired project.
Punchdrunk is an interactive theatre group, which started in the UK and is best known for its most recent production Sleep No More.
Media Molecule says that it has teamed-up with the group over a Dreams-inspired project that "goes beyond the world of gaming."
"We are thrilled to announce that we will be working together with Punchdrunk to establish a ground breaking new partnership which merges our breadth of experience in gaming and performing arts respectively," Media Molecule said in a blog post. "This new collaboration will explore the crossover between digital and theatrical performance, offering a unique opportunity to work across two rapidly evolving sectors."
Punchdrunk is now seeking a digital designer to work on the project.
Dreams was announced at E3 2015 and shown again at PlayStation's European press conference in Paris that year, with Media Molecule promising a beta for the game in 2016. But the title was subsequently absent from E3 this year and it didn't appear at PlayStation Experience earlier this month, either. However, Media Molecule broke its silence on the project last week, insisting that it is still in the works.
"We are sorry for being a bit quiet of late and for disappointing people not being at PSX, but sometimes you have to just shut the doors, take the phone off the hook and hunker down and that's exactly what we have been doing," Media Molecule chief Siobhan Reddy said in a statement on the website.
"Now I know it may be difficult to hear, and delays make us sad, too. However Dreams is big. Really big. I mean, we always knew we were a bit crazy, but the enormity of it has taken even us by surprise. And rather than cutting corners we are staying true to our vision - that Dreams isn't just about drawing, or sculpting, but also game creation, storytelling, animation, music and sound, all rolled into one whole beautiful PlayStation game."
