Creative England awards £150,000 to Leeds studios
Four UK developers will also be taken to GDC
UK accelerator and investment firm Creative England has today made a string of announcements around its efforts to support the UK games industry.
It told people at Creative England: Live that £150,000 worth of grants have been allocated already to developers and digital companies based in Leeds, UK. It is part of the firm's three-year Gamelab Leeds initiative, which is a development fund designed to get new projects off the ground.
The £300,000 worth of grants is a combination of Creative England's own investment and the government's regional support. Grants are awarded in batches of £10,000, £20,000 and £30,000.
The not-for-profit business has also announced it is taking four small studios to GDC, including VR specialists Fierce Kaiju, AR software firm Twelve Oaks, development service outfit BetaJester and 'digital fiction' creators Dreaming Methods.
Meanwhile, the company has also revealed its 'Future Leaders' - effectively a one-to-watch category of up-and-coming businesses. In the games section, that includes Antstream (gaming-as-a-service platform), Paw Print Games (which makes projects for Nickelodeon and Adult Swim), Geometry Wars developers Lucid Sound and Hammerhead, which developed the VR title Syren.
