Xbox adding Remote Play-style console streaming, xCloud preview launches this October
Platform holder's streaming strategy will centre around two pillars: Project xCloud and user's own consoles
Xbox's games streaming efforts will ramp up this October with a preview version of both Project xCloud and a new feature that will allow owners to stream games from their own consoles.
During the platform holder's E3 press conference, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced the new console streaming feature which will turn each Xbox One into "your own personal and free xCloud server."
While he didn't go into further detail, it sounds akin to PlayStation's Remote Play feature, which allows users to stream content playing from their own console to other devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Spencer has previously said the plan for Project xCloud, the company's cloud-based streaming service, is to deliver this to as many devices as possible.
xCloud will get its first public showcase at E3 2019, with public hands-ons available in Los Angeles during the week.
Streaming is shaping up to be the next battlefield between games firms, with Google announcing Stadia earlier this year and detailing its business model last week. Sony, meanwhile, identified Remote Play as a key feature to keep it competitive against such new offerings, as well as the PlayStation Now streaming service.
