World of Love indie event announced for June
Conference to feature speakers Cavanagh, Murray and Oliver
Media agency Pixel-Lab has announced the new World of Love conference - a one-day event especially for independent games developers, which it says will be the largest event of its kind ever held in the UK.
World of Love, which will be held at Channel 4's headquarters in London in June, has already attracted a number of high profile speakers, including VVVVVV developer Terry Cavanagh, Hello Games' Sean Murray, Rolando creator Simon Oliver and experimental game developer Stephen Lavelle.
Breaking away from the Indie Games Arcade where it begun - which was held as part of the Eurogamer Expo in 2009 and attracted over 10,000 visitors - the event hopes to coax discussion of key issues for indie developers, such as technology, effective marketing, publishing routes and game design.
"We had a really good showing of developers both times we've done the Indie Games arcade with Eurogamer, and last time when we did Show & Yell for developers to demonstrate their games and discuss issues they face, the turnout was phenomenal," said conference organiser David Hayward.
"What really struck me was the sense of community in the room. Even with a few disagreements, the support and respect all of these developers were willing to extend to each other was incredible."
"In my role at Channel 4, I'm already involved with a lot of indie game developers. There's no other scene quite like the UK indie community, so it's absolutely great to be hosting World of Love here," added Channel 4's commissioning editor for education, Alice Taylor.
Tickets to the one-day event, which will take place on June 25, can be purchased from the World of Love website.
