Sumo Group acquires PixelAnt Games

The Polish studio was purchased for £250,000

Sumo Group announced the acquisition of Polish studio PixelAnt Games for an initial cash consideration of £250,000.

Based in Wroclaw, the developer will become Sumo Digital's tenth studio, and its first one in mainland Europe.

Pawel Rohleder and Adam Lasoń, who co-founded PixelAnt in July 2020, will remain at the head of the studio. The developer employs 13 people, who are all working on Sumo Digital projects.

Sumo aims at growing the studio's headcount "rapidly," the announcement said, and focus on "winning third party contracts, while continuing to work on Sumo Digital projects." PixelAnt will also have the opportunity to work on original IP.

CEO of Sumo Group Carl Cavers said: "Increasing headcount is a key pillar of our growth strategy and accessing new pools of high-quality talent is vital to the successful execution of that strategy.

"I'm really pleased that Adam and Pawel can see the benefits of joining the Sumo family. Poland has been on our radar for some time and the acquisition of PixelAnt, who we know so well, is a great way for us to gain entry to this exciting market."

Sumo acquired two studios in 2020: Leamington Spa-based Lab42 in May, and Pipeworks in September, its first US studio.
