StrawDog signs up for Turbulenz browser platform
First UK developer to license tech for Space Ark game
UK studio StrawDog has become the first developer to work with the new browser platform from Turbulenz.
The company will release a new version Space Ark, originally released on XBLA last year, for browsers and Facebook.
"We have known the guys at Turbulenz for some time and firmly believe their technology gives independent developers like ourselves exactly what we need," commented StrawDog CEO Paul Smith.
"Publishing a high-end game in the browser, reaching consumers directly ourselves, and getting content we have already invested years of engineering time on, onto Facebook and other popular sites is really exciting for us."
Turbulenz came out of stealth mode last year, backed by $5 million funding. It plans to use some of that cash to help fund development projects through the Launch Pad initiative, although the StrawDog deal is not part of that programme.
"We have been looking for some time at ways to bring our games to a much wider audience, while still maintaining high production quality," added Simon Morris, CTO at StrawDog
"Turbulenz' unique game creation and publishing platform, which allows us to bring next generation quality content directly to gamers in the browser, means we can bring Space Ark to a potential audience of over 500 million people."
The beta for the game is planned for this April.
