Stellaris tabletop game hits £1m on Kickstarter in 24 hours

Adaptation of Paradox Interactive's strategy series is the latest board game to find an audience through crowdfunding

A tabletop game based on Paradox Interactive's Stellaris has passed £1 million in Kickstarter funding in less than 24 hours.

The crowdfunding campaign for Stellaris Infinite Legacy launched at 8am PST / 4pm GMT yesterday. At the time of writing it had raised just over £1 million -- far above its £37,000 funding target.

Stellaris Infinite Legacy is a collaboration between Paradox and the tabletop specialist Academy Games -- the latest the Swedish firm has embarked on since 2018, when it announced board games based on Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron and Cities: Skylines.

Board games based on video game IP remain a popular category when it comes to crowdfunding -- a relatively recent example being a tabletop version of Wolfenstein, which raised $480,000 in April last year.

In 2020, tabletop games and accessories raised a total of $233 million on Kickstarter -- around a third of all the money raised across every category on the platform.
