SteelSeries acquires Nahimic

Accessories firm will use new subsidiary's expertise to improve its proprietary audio engine

SteelSeries has acquired 3D sound solutions provider Nahimic for an undisclosed sum.

France-based Nahimic's software is used in various gaming-centric laptops, although it can also be used in mobile devices, headphones and virtual reality headsets.

On its website, the company states it was the first to off surround sound in 360-degree virtual reality videos.

SteelSeries plans to put the Nahimic team's experience to use in improving its own software, which compliments its audio accessories such as high-end headsets.

In the announcement post, global marketing communications manager Christian Cooper wrote: "Nahimic's expertise will benefit us in our efforts with further developing and expanding SteelSeries Engine.

"You can be excited for greater audio control and customisation as our future efforts with Nahimic will help everyone enjoy the Arctis audio experience to the fullest."
