Skybound's Walking Dead finale hasn't secured original devs yet

Company says the intent is to use ex-Telltale developers to finish the story, but "there are a lot of moving parts"

Over the weekend, Skybound Interactive announced that it would be taking over Telltale's The Walking Dead series, finishing up the last two episodes of the final season to give fans some closure. Shortly after the initial announcement, Skybound head of publishing Ian Howe assured fans the original team would complete the project, saying, "We don't believe the game can be properly completed by anyone other than members of the original team."

That said, Skybound president Dan Murray told Variety in a new interview that he doesn't know how much of the original team can be secured for the project.

"We are doing our best to take care of the people," Murray said. "Our intent is to work with the original team but there are a lot of moving parts. I don't want to get into the specifics around the deal itself, but I will say this: We are doing everything we can to do right by the people making the game. There's not a huge upside for the corporate entity of Telltale Games.

"This has nothing to do with Telltale Games and everything to do with the people involved with making 'The Walking Dead' game and trying to take care of them in the meantime the best way we can. That's the process we are in: Save the game for the fans and provide at least a runway to the team as we finish off the game. This has everything to do with the people who are making the game, and the fans."

It seems unlikely any such employment would be long-term, as Murray dismissed the idea of building out a Skybound internal development studio.
