Rise to Ruins developer promises to repay Patreon pledges back double
SixtyGig Games closes Patreon, offers double refunds on lifetime pledge amounts as studio thrives
Early access city-building strategy game Rise to Ruins has found itself in a position of financial comfort such that it can close its Patreon. But it plans to take that one step further, by refunding back all lifetime pledges - double.
In a post to the game's official Steam page, developer Raymond Doer celebrates the game's success in allowing him to sustain his livelihood as well as keep his independent publishing label, SixtyGig games, comfortably afloat with a rainy day fund set aside.
"Greetings guys, after some very, very careful consideration, I've decided to shut down the Patreon," it reads. "The reason being Rise to Ruins easily sustains my livelihood and a nice rainy day account that can keep SixtyGig Games running through the hard times now, so I don't feel right taking additional money from you guys! Your support has and always will be appreciated and I thank you all for your pledges, reviews and of course, buying the game.
"Rise to Ruins has been doing increasingly well over the last 6 months or so, and to return the thanks you gave me by pledging, I would like to return to you 2 times the amount you pledged to me since the Patreon began. Meaning, if you've pledged $10, I'll return $20!"
Doer invites anyone who has pledged in the past to reach out via Patreon to receive the promised refund, either through PayPal or Steam gift cards.
Rise to Ruins released in early access on Steam in October of 2014 after exceeding a $5,000 Kickstarter goal and reaching $10,163 in funding.
