PSP leads Japanese hardware sales

Sony handheld boosted by sales of Capcom's latest Monster Hunter offering

Sony's PSP continues its impressive sales run in Japan, with the latest weekly hardware date from Media Create showing the handheld has sold another 85,421 units in the region.

That's only 500 units less than last week, as the console continues to benefit from the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, a game that has already sold over 1.7 million copies in Japan.

Nintendo's DS sales were down, with 44,551 units sold compared to 47,158 the previous week.

The Wii continues to lead sales of home console hardware, with 44,241 units for the week ended April 20, with Sony's PlayStation 3 selling 7438 units and the PS2 a further 6454 units.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold 1076 units during the same period.
