OrangeGames acquires majority stake in Sulake
Habbo creator will make use of stakeholder's global network to further distribution of its social communities
Dutch digital content company OrangeGames has acquired a majority stake in Sulake, the creator of the online social communities Habbo and Hotel Hideaway. Elisa, the telecommunications company that acquired Sulake in 2013 in the midst of fallout from a child grooming expose, maintains a minority stake.
Sulake is a Helsinki-based company focused on creating online social platforms. Its best-known creation, Habbo, continues to reach millions of users per month across nine different language communities. Hotel Hideaway, the follow-up to Habbo, has over 270 million registered accounts and 300,000 monthly active users.
Through the acquisition, Sulake hopes to broaden its reach using OrangeGames' strong global network, while OrangeGames gains two popular social platforms.
"OrangeGames gives us a wider distribution network and resources, allowing Sulake to dedicate more creative and development support to our games," said Lisa Puurunen, Sulake CEO, in a statement. "We look forward to developing new content and experiences with OrangeGames to bolster our growing global gaming communities."
