Onrush director Paul Rustchynsky resurfaces at Slightly Mad Studios
Ex-Evolution exec leading unnamed title at Project Cars studio after layoffs at previous employer
Paul "Rushy" Rustchynsky has been hired by UK racing developer Slightly Mad Studios just one month after he was caught up in a wave of redundancies at his previous studio.
It's the third developer Rustchynsky has worked for in just over two years, having started as a long-serving director at Evolutions Studios, the firm behind the Motorstorm series and Driveclub. When the latter's poor performance led Sony to close the studio, Rustchynsky and his team were rescued by Codemasters.
The team immediately set to work on Onrush, a new racing IP that aimed to shake up the genre. We spoke to Rustchynsky and his colleagues about their hopes for this title before it launched earlier this year.
However, the slow sales for this game led Codemasters to lay off a number of employees, including Rustchynsky and several senior staff.
This week, Rustchynsky has revealed he is working at Slightly Mad Studios, the UK developer behind Project Cars, as game director. In his tweet, he said he was already working on an unnamed project and "can't wait to share more about what's to come."
Now in his 15th year of games development, Rustchynsky has worked at a range of studios, starting as in QA at Codemasters and a brief stint at Blade Interactive before joining Evolution, where he worked for more than a decade.
