New 3DS Lego game is 'Wii port'
New portable has "roughly the same power as a Wii" says TT Games
TT Games producer Nick Ricks has revealed that the recently announced Nintendo 3DS version of Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game will be a direct port of the Wii version.
Speaking at GDC, as reported by Siliconera, Ricks revealed that the team was using the same assets created for the Wii version of the game.
Ricks also characterised the 3DS as having "roughly the same power as a Wii," with superior lighting effects. The 3DS version is able to run at 60 frames per second in 2D mode and 30 frames per second in 3D mode.
The game will use the 3DS to highlight collectible items via stereoscopic 3D and will also make use of the console's StreetPass mode. This will primarily consist of a stone-paper-scissors style game, but it will also be the only way to unlock some characters and costumes.
TT Games continues to enjoy considerable success with its licensed Lego titles, with a new Star Wars game due for release this month. As a result the developer, now owned by Warner Bros, was able to extend its licensing agreement with the Danish toy company until 2016.
