Mythic: Fall in WAR subscribers "expected"

Executive producer says the company is "super proud" of subscriber levels and is excited about Russia and Asia expansions

Mythic's executive producer, Jeff Hickman, has said that the studio is "proud" of the level of subscribers it has to its MMO Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, and said that the company had expected to lose customers to competitors.

"We are super proud of our subscription numbers," Hickman told Eurogamer.net, in reference to subscriber levels dropping to 300,000 users, from 750,000 the month after it launched.

"We expected a hit from our competitors launch and the economy is tough right now. But our subs are growing, especially as we see people return from 'That Other Game'."

Hickman added that Mythic was excited about the opportunities that localisation holds in expanding their subscriber base, following the release of the Russian version of WAR.

"We are really excited about all of our international opportunities. We think that Russian players will love WAR and have been really enthusiastic about the game. We launched last night and the servers are filling up fast."

He added: "Asia and other areas are very attractive to us and we have big plans for them. We will be in Korea and Taiwan shortly and are exploring all options for China."

This comes after job losses were announced at Mythic in an effort to resize the team "from a pre-launch to a post-launch size".
