Michel Ancel, Rayman devs protest game delay

Developers upset with Ubisoft's decision to hold back finished Rayman Legends on Wii U

Rayman fans aren't the only ones irked by Ubisoft's decision to delay the Wii U version of Rayman Legends. Eurogamer reports that the game's developers are similarly upset, as evidenced by a series of photos with Ubisoft Montpellier staff including Rayman creator Michel Ancel.

The pictures show the developers posing with a poster that reads, "Sortez nous Rayman. Soutient a Ubi Montpellier," which translates to "Let's release Rayman. Support Ubi Montpelier." Originally expected as an exclusive launch game for Nintendo's new system, Rayman Legends was first pushed back to this month, and then last week it was delayed until September to launch alongside new Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.

This is not the first grousing to emerge from the game's developers. A former employee at Ubisoft Montpellier vented on a Spanish forum last week, upset that the team endured crunch only to be told upon finishing that their work wouldn't see the light of day for the better part of a year. The developer left the studio shortly after the completion of Rayman Legends for Wii U.

"For us, this means we've spent six months barely seeing our wives, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed," the developer wrote. "Believe it, it was a hell to swallow this news."

As of press time, Ubisoft representatives had not returned requests for comment.
