MFORMA establishes Chinese subsidiary

Mobile entertainment publisher MFORMA has announced its expansion into the Chinese market, with the establishment of local subsidiary MFORMA China and the opening of offices in both Shanghai and Bejing.

Mobile entertainment publisher MFORMA has announced its expansion into the Chinese market, with the establishment of local subsidiary MFORMA China and the opening of offices in both Shanghai and Bejing.

The company, which provides information service subscriptions to mobile users in addition to a large catalogue of mobile games, has been working in China for almost a year by providing content via local content aggregators. The establishment of a government-authorised corporation will allow the firm to do business directly with Chinese mobile operators.

It's estimated that there are some 300 million mobile subscribers in China at the moment, with the figure expected to grow to half a billion in the next four years - making the huge country into both the largest and the fastest growing wireless market in the world.

MFORMA hopes to continue to translate more of its software into Chinese, and will be sourcing titles from around the world for distribution into the territory. In addition to its headquarters in Shanghai, MFORMA China also now has offices in Bejing to assist in distribution across the country.

"We are prepared to take full advantage of the enormous wireless market and demand for wireless content in China," according to MFORMA CEO Daniel Kranzler. "We have established a local Chinese corporation with local management and personnel and are obtaining direct distribution licenses in China, authorising us to distribute content throughout the entire country through all mobile operators and portals."

"Mobile games and entertainment are thriving in China," concurs MFORMA's vice president for Asia, Glen Lu. "The two big Chinese operators are focused on mobile entertainment as a way to drive data revenues, and the leading portals are seeing tremendous activity with wireless content uptake. MFORMA is perfectly positioned to deliver the best entertainment content from around the world to the expansive Chinese population hungry for great international content."
