Kojima predicts no-console future
Metal Gear creator imagines "games that don't depend on any platform"
Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series for Konami, has predicted that new networking technologies will make the videogame console obsolete in the near future.
Although he did not mention cloud computing or existing services such as OnLive by name, Kojima commented that: "In the near future, we'll have games that don't depend on any platform".
"Gamers should be able to take the experience with them in their living rooms, on the go, when they travel - wherever they are and whenever they want to play. It should be the same software and the same experience," he added.
Kojima was speaking at a press conference for forthcoming PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, at which he also announced the inclusion of characters and creatures from Capcom's Monster Hunter series in the game.
The comments were reported by Reuters, with Sony Japan president Hiroshi Kawano describing the statement as "a bold prediction".
Kojima also indicated his desire to create motion pictures, although no details of potential projects were announced.
