Guerrilla Cambridge art directors form Polygon Treehouse
New studio already working on first title, point-and-click adventure Röki
Two of the employees affected by the closure of Sony's Guerrilla Cambridge studio have banded together to start their own company.
GamesIndustry.biz broke the news about Guerrilla Cambridge's demise back in January. The studio had most recently worked on PSVR launch title RIGS: Mechanized Combat League, but was also known for the MediEvil franchise and Vita FPS Killzone Mercenary.
New venture Polygon Treehouse has been founded by former Guerrilla art directors Alex Kanaris and Tom Jones and is already working on its debut title: Röki, a point-and-click adventure inspired by Scandinavian folklore.
The concept stems from one the two artists discussed while at Guerrilla. When the studio closed, it gave the duo the "sudden creative freedom to focus one those ideas your talk about in the background", Kanaris told Eurogamer.
He continued: "We'd often discuss ideas and have to essentially, put them to one side, because maybe the scope wasn't that of a triple-A, big 100-strong studio, but was nevertheless something we were interested in."
Kanaris added that choosing to develop a point-and-click adventure allows Jones and himself to "flex our art muscles while also testing ourselves in other areas".
Röki is currently in the early stages and Polygon Treehouse has yet to decide where it will source the finance needed to complete the project, although Kanaris and Jones are considering crowdfunding.
