Glu Mobile appoints new vice president and general manager
Industry veteran Jon David previously was CEO of Taunt and vice president of PopCap Studio
Developer and publisher Glu Mobile has appointed Jon David as its new vice president and general manager.
David is an industry veteran whose experience spans 20 years. Before joining Glu, he was CEO of Taunt, an esports company allowing viewers to take part in live challenges, predict match outcomes, and so on. While he was Taunt's CEO, the Seattle-based tech company raised $3 million in capital.
Prior to that, David spent ten years at PopCap Games, first as vice president of social games and then, after the studio was acquired by EA, as vice president of PopCap Studio. During his time at PopCap he led the development of Bejeweled Blitz, and oversaw the popular Plants vs. Zombies franchise.
David also was lead program manager at Microsoft for Xbox Live Arcade for five years.
Mark van Ryswyk, executive vice president leading casual games at Glu, commented: "Jon joins Glu at an exciting time as we incubate the next generation of casual games for the organization. With his extensive background in creative direction and studio leadership, I look forward to partnering closely with Jon to accelerate that mission."
Earlier this year, Glu reported strong Q4 2019 results, with income exceeding $10.8 million, compared to a $1.3 million loss for the same quarter in 2018.
Back in 2015, Tencent paid $126 million for 15% of Glu Mobile, but the Chinese giant sold a quarter of its stake last year.
