Ex-EA, Walking Dead developers form new mobile studio Ordinal Games

Company split between Los Angeles and Shanghai, will focus on interactive fiction

A new mobile studio has been founded by two developers who previously worked at firms such as Scopely, Kongregate and Electronic Arts.

Ordinal Games is the new firm headed up by Chris Pasley and Alex Lien, PocketGamer.biz reports. The firm has received its first funding through seed investment and is currently seeking more financial partners.

Pasley most recently worked at Scopely as executive producer on The Walking Dead: Road to Survival as well as an unannounced title. He has previously held senior roles at Majesco and Kongregate, spending two years as director of games at the latter.

Lien, meanwhile, spent almost five years as the studio director for EA's Pogo Shanghai outlet. He has also held games-related positions at firms such as Break Media, where he was general manager for Greater China.

Ordinal Games plans to create a new interactive fiction platform for mobile users, enabling them to create new stories and take a share of the revenues as they are sold to fellow players.

The studio will operate on both sides of the Pacific, with a design and distribution team in Los Angeles and a development team in Shanghai.

The market for interactive fiction, led by apps such as Choices, Episode and What's Your Story?, is growing. A recent report claims the genre generated over $14m in February alone.
