EA buys IronMonkey Studios - report

Is the developer of The Sims and Fight Night on mobile the latest acquisition of FIFA publisher?

Electronic Arts has bought handheld and mobile developer IronMonkey Studios, according to a report by Tsumea.

The company has close ties with EA, having already worked on mobile versions of hit franchises Fight Night, Need for Speed and The Sims. GamesIndustry.biz has contacted EA for comment.

An acquisition comes at a time when the company is laying off staff at its other internal studios as it shifts the business to focus on digital markets.

The Madden and FIFA publisher bought social gaming company PlayFish last year for $300 million to accelerate growth on platforms such as Facebook, while the number of console project have been reduced but supported with higher marketing and development budgets.
