Batman: Arkham Asylum ships 2.5 million
Game also awarded Guinness record for 'most critically acclaimed superhero game'
Batman: Arkham Asylum has shipped in excess of 2.5 million units to retail since its release almost a month ago, Eidos has confirmed.
The game went straight to number one in the UK chart and held the position for two weeks upon launch. It has also met with acclaim in the media and, says Eidos, has even been awarded a Guinness World Record for the 'most critically acclaimed superhero game ever'.
"Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the stand-out games this year," said Phil Rogers, CEO of Eidos. "I've been following the great reviews and consumer blogs and I'm delighted that gamers everywhere love playing this game as much as we do."
"The tremendous critical and commercial success of Batman: Arkham Asylum sets a new benchmark for superhero games," added Martin Tremblay, president of Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment. "Rocksteady Studios created an excellent game and the sales numbers demonstrate how a powerful franchise fused with high-quality production resonates with consumers."
Arkham Asylum was developed by the London-based Rocksteady Games for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The first downloadable content for the game went live last week and the studio is promising additional content is still to come.
