Atari invests in Anstream, may buy MobyGames

MobyGames deal could see Atari purchase the site and corresponding database for $1.5 million by March 2022

Atari today announced a pair of related strategic deals involving retro game streaming service Antstream and video game database MobyGames.

The MobyGames deal sees Atari given the option to purchase the site and corresponding database outright for $1.5 million through the end of March 2022.

MobyGames is currently owned by Blue Flame Labs.

In the same announcement, Atari also said it's invested $500,000 in retro games streaming platform Antstream, with the strategic investment potentially going up to $3.5 million later down the line.

"The investment in Antstream Limited was made pursuant to a convertible loan agreement that can be converted into equity of Antstream Limited in a future financing, with an initial investment of $500,000," the announcement read.

Atari restructured earlier this year, naming Wade J. Rosen as its new CEO in the process. Over the summer, the company announced more changes, moving away from free-to-play and mobile to focus on premium PC and console games.

Atari partnered with Antstream from 2019 on the VCS microconsole.

Anstream completed a "substantial" series A funding round led by Tencent back in 2019.
