New Frogger game arrives on mobiles

Prizes offered to top players of retro classic

More than two decades after Frogger first appeared in the arcades, the retro classic is making the leap to mobile phones in a game which offers prizes to the top players.

Konami has launched Frogger for Prizes across several North American carriers and portals together with InfoSpace, which provides the "For Prizes" proprietary technology powering the game.

Described as "an authentic translation of the original arcade version of Frogger with multiple enhancements and updated graphics," Frogger for Prizes features three modes. Classic is based on the original arcade game, while Deluxe has advanced features such as power-ups and bonus items.

In Tournament mode, players can take part in daily or weekly tournaments, competing for prizes such as gift certificates and Frogger console games. The winners of the daily tournaments will be determined by win/loss ratio, while the player with the highest overall score at the end of each week will win the weekly prize.

Frogger first debuted in 1981, and more than 20 million games have been sold to date. Konami plans to celebrate the game's 25th anniversary with a series of promotional activities.
