Microsoft's zoo management simulation franchise, Zoo Tycoon, has sold over two million copies in the USA - with the double-platinum success placing the Blue Fang Games developed title in the top 15 PC games of all time.
The game was originally launched in 2001, and has received a number of expansion packs and re-issues since then; it remains consistently one of the most popular PC games in the USA, as evidenced by this latest sales milestone.
In fact, the original Zoo Tycoon hitting two million sales and entering the PC gaming hall of fame couldn't come at a better time - since series developer Blue Fang is currently beavering away on a full sequel to the game, which Microsoft will be publishing this October.
This genre of title appears to be in firm favour with publishers at the moment, in fact; aside from Microsoft's forthcoming Zoo Tycoon sequel, Atari has recently been showing off an updated Rollercoaster Tycoon, and it's one of the worst-kept secrets in the industry that EA is keen to resurrect the grandfather of the genre, Theme Park - although it's not known yet what stage that project is at.
