Yo Ho Ho and a CD-ROM!

Fancy a swashbuckling adventure in the Caribbean?

For Immediate Release December 2005

Hoist the Jolly Roger and shiver me timbers - a whole new generation of land-lubbing sea dogs is expected in the UK following Focus Multimedia's decision to release Pirates of the Caribbean, a swashbuckling "RPG-at-sea" based on the blockbuster Disney movie.

Featuring stunning graphics, deep role-playing elements and action-packed quests, the Pirates of the Caribbean game offers players the unique opportunity to prove their mettle against the legendary buccaneers of the Caribbean.

Pirates of the Caribbean is licensed from leading games publisher Ubisoft, and will join Focus Multimedia's range of budget-price PC CD-ROM software retailing in DVD style packaging for only £9.99.

The beauty of Pirates of the Caribbean lies in the game's open-ended nature. You can explore the ocean, become a trader, a smuggler, swap sides and work with the French, amongst many other things. Should you choose to follow the pre-determined script, you become an active player in the struggle for power and join the quest to discover an artefact of incredible worth and power.

On completion of tasks, you gain experience points that can be used to develop personal characteristics and traits, such as leadership and sailing skills. As you progress in levels, you are also able to command higher-class ships, bigger crews and more fearsome weapons.

The graphics used in Pirates of the Caribbean are highly realistic and reflective of the 17th Century period and the area in which this game is set. The bustling, busy towns each have a distinctive feel, the sea gently sways and crashes depending on the weather, and the long grass flattens as you walk across it, fully immersing you in the game world. The sound effects add to this feeling, as the music builds tension on anticipation of a battle. Keira Knightly, star of the movie, also contributes a voice-over narration.

Craig Johnson, managing director of Focus Multimedia, commented: "We are pleased to add yet another high profile Ubisoft title to our range. As we continue to increase our presence within the low-price gaming market this is exactly the kind of high profile, high quality product that complements our range."

Charlie Barrett, head of strategic sales and licensing for Ubisoft added: "Pirates of the Caribbean was an extremely well performing title at full price and we're confident that Focus Multimedia will continue to extend the success of the game at budget price."

Pirates of the Caribbean will be well received by fans of the popular Disney movie, and by casual gamers with a yearning for life on the high seas. The title goes on sale in March 2005 with a new RRP of only £9.99.
