XLEAGUE.TV Discovers World Champion
APOLLOOO DEFEATS ALL AT WORLD CYBER GAMES
12th October 2007 (London, United Kingdom) - XLEAGUE.TV, the UK's first dedicated eSports television channel and website, is proud to announce that one of its first XLEAGUE.TV Invitational Champions has defeated the World and was recently crowned WCG Champion on Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.
If someone said the word 'Apollo', what would you think of? If you're not diving into your Greek or Roman history books to look up a slightly dualistic god, you might recall a quiet, somewhat shy seventeen year old who graced our television screens back in May. It was in this month XLEAGUE.TV held its invitational match for Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. Apollo (otherwise known as 'Apollooo' or Shaun William Clark) was one of the competitors. Despite his nervous demeanour, the unknown gamer took everyone by surprise by beating three members of the highly respected Team Dignitas club and took first place. It was an amazing victory, but little did Apollo know, the best was yet to come. In little under six months he'd be hailed the first UK gamer ever to win gold at the World Cyber Games, collecting $12,000 and be part of one of the most renowned clubs in the world.
When we grabbed a quick chat with Michael O'Dell, Team Dignitas Manager, he was quick to praise up one of the latest additions to his team. "When FlikstRR and Zaccubus saw him on XLEAGUE.TV, they said they were so amazed by his performance and he was such a nice guy. We were aware of Shaun's talents via online play, but when we attended The Match it confirmed what we had heard and knew to some extent. As soon as I met him and saw him I knew he was going to be one hell of a talented player. All he wanted to do was win."
Soon after that, Apollo found himself in Manchester at WCG's regional qualifiers. He then went onto the professional qualifiers at Newbury I-series. "When I won the professional qualifiers, it was the first time it hit me that if I could win undefeated here, I could do it for the world," he says.
And his perseverance paid off. Apollo came through unscathed in the Group Stages, and went onto challenge - and defeat - his final opponent German player Zeon (Leon Machens).
We at XKLEAGUE.TV would like to extend our congratulations to Shaun and Team Dignitas, and we hope to see Shaun back on XLEAGUE.TV in the near future.
