Xbox to support The Wave & Swansea Sound's 'Wave for Wales 2007'
WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT FOR CHARITY
Tuesday 24th April 2007 - It has today been announced that The Wave and Swansea Sound's biggest ever record-breaking day in South Wales on Sunday, 24th June, will be supported by Xbox 360, the video gaming and entertainment system from Microsoft®.
Xbox® will be sponsoring three of the nine records being attempted. They are backing the Mexican Wave and Skipping record as well as the Water Balloon Fight. Xbox have previously supported the successful setting of this record in Australia and are keen to beat the record in Margam Park. With nearly 3,000 people required to break the record over 50,000 water balloons have already been ordered.
Also being produced are the skipping ropes which will be available for free and people will be able to keep them as a souvenir. With the rope being produced solely for this event they are sure to become very collectable for Xbox fans.
As well as supporting these three records they will be putting on additional entertainment helping turn the day into one of the must attend events of the summer. Historic Margam Castle will be turned into Xbox Castle for the day. Anyone attending the event will have the opportunity to play on Xbox 360, with prizes available for high scores throughout the day. Already confirmed as one of the games available will be Guitar Hero 2, published by Activision.
In front of the Castle will be installed a giant screen where lucky players will have the opportunity to play games in front of thousands of people. Celebrities will be announced in the weeks ahead to take part in Game with Fame - where regular gamers take on celebrities via Xbox Live®.
Stephen McGill, Head of Gaming and Entertainment at Microsoft said "This is a fantastic opportunity for Xbox to support one of the most exciting charity events in the country. We hope that our involvement will help break some more records and raise even more money for these very special causes."
Station Director, Carrie Mosley said, "We are promising a day of world records and who better to have supporting us than one of the world's biggest companies with a name that is recognisable to most youngsters. Their support will make the day bigger and better than we originally could have hoped for."
Shelter Cymru's Andrew Jones said "After setting the record in 2002 when some people may have thought it was a late April Fool the support of Xbox shows that already people are taking notice of what is planned - I can't wait for the day."
Hosted by Neath Port Talbot Council, The Wave & Swansea Sound's 'Wave for Wales 2007' will be held at Margam Park on 24th June and is in aid of Shelter Cymru and the RNLI.
