WTF!?

They might well ask.

London, UK. London-based development studio Mediatonic has announced Who’s That Flying?!, its second PlayStation Minis game for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3. Who’s That Flying?! is a brand new, original IP and will be released exclusively as a download from Sony’s Playstation Network (PSN) store. Who’s That Flying?! is a side-scrolling shooter crossed with tower defence and courtroom drama, all doused in sheer awesomeness - AND THEN SET ON FIRE.

Players take control of the mysterious and powerful creature known only as the "Guardian of Earth". His steely eye and HYPER-POWERED LASER ARM have kept the citizens of Earth safe for generations (as well as proving a hit with the ladies). With all his awesome TALENT and FLAIR, surely it would be IMPOSSIBLE for a sudden and devastating invasion of colossal Doom Beasts to descend on the Earth’s cities and cause havoc without his knowledge? No. It’s not. And the fact that he was posing for photos at the time has nothing to do with it.

To save the Guardian Of Earth’s reputation, as well as the Earth itself, players must not only defend the cities from ravenous hordes of Doom Beasts but must also defend the Guardian of Earth against accusations of gross incompetence from the Galactic Council of Justice - and this is all BEFORE players can even start to get to the bottom of just who or what is really behind the invasion.

The announcement of Who’s That Flying?! follows on from Mediatonic’s critically acclaimed PlayStation Minis debut, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess. Both titles demonstrate the studio’s belief in creating games packed full of love, character, story and attention to detail.

Writer and designer Jim Griffiths comments: “The beating heart of Who’s That Flying?! is a fast-paced side-scrolling shooter, but we’re also very proud of the world and characters that we’ve created. Every level you play through is actually the Guardian retelling his story to the Galactic Council in an attempt to prove his innocence - with the occasional twist in the tale." Jim continues: "We feel it’s an interesting and effective way of bringing together the story and the game mechanic to make both of them feel relevant and more meaningful to the player.”

Mediatonic’s co-founder and creative director Paul Croft adds: “It’s fantastic to be announcing another title for Sony’s brilliant PlayStation Minis service. WTF was a really interesting game to work on as we tried to combine two very different game mechanics to create something truly unique. It’s quick and fun to pick-up and play and we believe it will appeal to both casual players and hardcore shmup fans alike. We’ve packed a lot of content and personality into the game and we’re really excited about the launch!”
