World Cyber Games Names Battlefield 2 Official USA Championship Demo Game

WCG Hosts Battlefield 2 Ladder As Part of WCG 2005 USA Championship. Demo Competition Puts $20,000 in Prizes Up For Grabs.

NEW YORK, N.Y., July 18, 2005 - The World Cyber Games, the premiere international computer and video gaming festival, announced that the most anticipated PC title of the year, Battlefield 2, will be the official demonstration game for the 2005 WCG US competition. The battle kicks off today July 18 at iGames affiliated gaming centers nationwide. As the official WCG demo game in US, the Battlefield 2 ladder provides an opportunity for friendly competition with a total prize pool estimated at more than $20,000.

The Battlefield 2 ladder will be played in eight-versus-eight conquest mode, meaning 16 players will compete at one time. Organizers selected the game based on its team oriented game play which reflects the spirit of the World Cyber Games. Battlefield 2 brings the intensity and excitement of the award winning Battlefield 1942 game in to the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available on the planet. Players will fight for the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition, engaging in major conflicts with over 64 players in some of the largest PC online battles. The WCG Battlefield 2 demonstration game is presented by Intel and co-sponsored by NVIDIA/XFX. Raffle Prizes include one (1) Alienware Computer (Area51), two (2) GeForce 6600 GT Graphic Cards as well as Battlefield two (2) Zboards gaming keyboards. Prizes are courtesy of Alienware, Idea Zone, Game Daemons, and Monster Ghecko.

For those interested in more intense competition, the 2005 WCG US competition is entering its regional preliminaries stage. Players who advance during the regional qualifier rounds qualify for the WCG USA National Finals to be held September 8 through 10, 2005 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. There players will compete for a prize pool of $34,000 and a chance at the ultimate honor in e-sports, representing America in Singapore to compete against the world's best gamers at the 2005 World Cyber Games Grand Final and win a share of over $400,000 in cash and prizes.
