World Cyber Games 2009
Team USA unveiled.
(New York, September 29, 2009) - The World Cyber Games (WCG) USA 2009 National Final concluded Sunday at the Jacob K. Javits Center with 20 of the best video game players in the country earning a share of $100,000 in cash and prizes and spots on TEAM USA's roster. In November, the members of TEAM USA will travel to Chengdu, China to compete on the biggest stage in competitive gaming -- The World Cyber Games 2009 Grand Final. At the Grand Final, TEAM USA will face off against over 800 top gamers from nearly 80 countries for a share of approximately $500,000 in cash and prizes and the title of world's best gamer.
"The competitors have once again raised the level of play for global eSports tournaments with the WCG USA 2009 National Final," said Aaron Smolick, Director of Marketing for World Cyber Games USA. "The excitement and intensity that filled the Jacob K. Javits Center this weekend kept spectators on the edge of their seats until TEAM USA was announced on Sunday."
Returning favorites, gamers and fans alike had the chance to participate in the weekend competition and festivities. Members of the public were able to compete in the Samsung Mobile Challenge featuring Asphalt 4: Elite Racing and WiseStar2 to earn two spots on TEAM USA. Additionally, cast members from the hit SyFy reality show WCG Ulitmate Gamer were on-hand to meet and compete against fans in featured games at the 'Free Play Area.'
In 2007 and 2005, TEAM USA took first place beating out over 70 other countries for the top spot. At the 2008 Grand Final, TEAM USA took third place winning five overall medals in the largest and most competitive Grand Final to date, where more than 700 gamers from over 70 countries competed. TEAM USA will be traveling to Chengdu, China to compete in the 2009 Grand Final from November 11-15, which promises to be the biggest gaming event to date.
