World Cuber Games Announces Group Draw For US Finals
Final Group Line-Ups Are Confirmed For US Finals of the World Cyber Games
(New York, NY, August 29, 2005) - The countdown to the Grand Final in Singapore began last weekend with the group draw for the US finals of the World Cyber Games. With over 40,000 competitors from every corner of the United States whittled down to an elite 186, the final stages have been set for these lucky few to realize their dreams and represent their country at the Grand Final in Singapore in November.
The results of the draw for the following games - Half-Life: Counter-Strike, FIFA Soccer 2005, Need For Speed: Underground 2, StarCraft: Brood War, WarCraftIII The Frozen Throne, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War can be found on: http://us.worldcybergames.com/sp/web/us_event/us_draw/usfinal_draw.asp?itemno=649
Featured match-ups will include some of the best and brightest that US gaming has to offer and big name draws such as Team 3D, United 5, WeekendWarriors (CounterStrike), Matija Biljeskovic (FIFA 2005) and Dennis "ShortRound" Chan (WarCraft) will go head-to-head with up-and-coming gamers eager to take down their idols and win a place on Team USA.
"This is our biggest endeavor yet for the US Final, said Hank Jeong, CEO of International Cyber Marketing, the organizing body of the World Cyber Games. "Now that the field is set, we want to wish all the gamers good luck in their battle to make Team USA."
The tournament draw method for all games at the US Finals of the World Cyber Games will consist of a 'Single Elimination Tournament' (Best 2 out of 3). In addition, competitor numbers will be labeled from left to right (or top to bottom) on the tournament schedule board and the tournament draw will be in alphabetical order by player name.
Players who qualified both online and through a regional preliminary were drawn at random by the WCG Committee. The tournament draw order was done in alphabetical order by team or player name and the map was selected at the same time as tournament draw to ensure objectivity and fairness. The opponent and seat is decided by the tournament draw, so the player must be aware of his/her tournament draw result.
The Group drawings for the Xbox events, including Halo 2 and Dead or Alive Ultimate, are scheduled for September 3, 2005.
The World Cyber Games 2005 US Final is sponsored by Samsung Electronics, a global sponsor, as well as Intel, Razer, and Shuttle.
