Wizards of the Coast acquires Tuque Games

Dungeons & Dragons owner picks up Montreal studio that created Livelock and has been working on a D&D game

Wizards of the Coast has acquired Montreal-based Tuque Games, the company announced today. Tuque had already been working on a game using Wizards' Dungeons & Dragons license, and will continue to work on video games employing the tabletop gaming company's stable of brands.

"At Wizards, we're continuing our commitment to creating new ways to bring our fan favorite brands to life," Wizards of the Coast president Chris Cocks said. "Our unique approach of connecting fans around the tabletop as well as through our expanding portfolio of digital games is redefining what it means to be a games company."

Founded in 2012, Tuque is best known as the developer of the cooperative shooter Livelock, which Perfect World Entertainment published in 2016. It was also a pilot studio in the Square Enix Collective initiative with World War Machine, the project that eventually became Livelock.

"Tuque is thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of the Wizards of the Coast team," Tuque founder Jeff Hattem said. "By working more closely together, we can accelerate our joint vision and bring to life new games, characters and worlds in Wizards of the Coast's roster of franchises."
