Will Wright launching user-generated TV show
Sims creator has designed bespoke technology for Bar Karma series
Industry veteran Will Wright is to launch a TV series in the US which asks its audience to decide what happens, allowing viewers to decide on plot points after writers generate a rough framework for the storyline.
Each week, viewers will be asked to login to the Bar Karma's website, which runs on technology created by Wright, and choose what will happen. A production team will then script, shoot and broadcast the episode.
"Bar Karma is a culmination of over a year's work and I am very excited to see the results as we join together not only gamers and television viewers, but actually create a community that will be empowered with a professional production team," said Wright.
"To develop and lead an initiative like this fulfils a long held passion for television, and I am thrilled that Current would provide the resources and creative support to bring this to air."
The show is set to debut in the first quarter of 2011, on Current TV - available in the US, UK, Italy and Ireland.
"Current is taking original programming to a new level," said Current CEO Mark Rosenthal.
"Bar Karma will fuse the power of television, the internet and mobile devices and provide viewers the ability to truly create and control a television series. Will Wright is a phenomenal creator and we are thrilled he came to Current to launch his first television series. Together, we hope to move television storytelling beyond passive participation and allow viewers to become true programming partners."
