WCG US FINAL YIELDS UPSETS, NFS CHAMP AND DRAMATIC SETTING FOR FINAL ROUNDS

Day Two closed on the 2006 WCG US Final and when the smoked cleared many favorites had been bowed and the first of eight champions had been named.

Kamran "omegaelite" Siddiqui of Florida is the first to be named to Team USA with a victory over teammate Rodriguez Jonathan (Kyuubi) in the Need for Speed competion. This is Siddiqui's third US crown for NFS in as many years.

"I trained really hard coming into the Final," said Siddiqui. "I scouted the competition ahead of time and put in a lot of hours of training."

In the increasingly popular CounterStrike competition, new comer Zex cut off favored Complexity's hopes of finally taking the US title in an upset during pool play. Zex was brought back down to earth in the semifinal by highly regarded United 5.

Team 3D rallied past Pandemic in the second semifinal after falling behind early- a trademark for the four time defending US and two time World Champions. Team 3D versus United 5 will be a rematch of the 2004 US Final.

Dead or Alive 4 is proving to be a crowd favorite, even as defending US champion James "Nefarious Sage" Clifford of New Jersey was handed defeat in the semifinal against Rodriguez "DOAMASTER" Emmanuel. Master will square off against his protégé Daniel "King" Roberson in the final tomorrow after King rallied back to defeat Dr. Sexual of the Bronx, NY. There was no shortage of trash talk as the curtain came down on the DOA4 competition.

In the topsy-turvy FIFA brackets, the number 1 and 2 seeds, Matija "Jevrej" Biljeskovic of Illinois and Filipe "Enigma" Garcia, will battle it out in the lower bracket to face Isidro "novusnaim" Sifuentes of Texas in the final. The field is something of a surprise as Matija and Felipe, close friends and training partners, have dominated the US FIFA scene in recent years and placed 1st and 2nd at the US Open in Los Angeles this past June.

W. "Chompr" Cwiklo will play the winner of Brian "TTR Boyle" Boyle versus Max Fatality to set up the PGR final.

Winners of the US Final will form Team USA and travel to Monza Italy in October to face 700 gamers from 70 countries in defense of their title of WCG Grand Champion, earned in Singapore last year.
