Valve announce launch date for Day of Defeat: Source

Valve Software has confirmed the launch date for Day of Defeat: Source; an updated version of the original Half Life Mod.

Day of Defeat allows teams of players to form squads of Axis (German) or Allied (British or American) troops, facing each other in a variety of World War II inspired maps. According to Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve, DoD has "quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years."

The new version will feature the same maps, but with the addition of improved graphics, HDR lighting, and world, weapon and player models. As the revamped version utilises Valve's Source engine, which was designed and created for the acclaimed Half Life 2, DoD: Source will also feature much improved world physics and realistic ragdoll physics for in-game characters.

Priced USD 19.99, the game will be only be available on line through Valve's Steam service, from September 26th. Those who purchased the Half Life 2 Silver or Gold packages will be sent a request to preload the game, with free access being granted as soon as it officially appears online.

The company had recently announced two further Source updates - the original Half Life and another acclaimed Mod, Counter Strike.
