US Rep Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez's Twitch stream drew 439k peak viewers
Among Us stream with fellow Representative Ilhan Omar and popular Twitch streamers saw highest peak of any politician on Twitch
The first-ever Twitch stream by US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) drew 439,000 peak concurrent viewers last night, the highest peak ever for a politician.
According to a tweet by Stream Hatchet, Ocasio-Cortez's stream far outstripped the previous peak concurrent record by a politician -- 124,000 viewers on a stream from US Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Though some of the most popular gaming events tend to peak in the millions, Ocasio-Cortez's numbers put her in the upper ranks of individual streamers for peak concurrent viewership -- with Ninja currently holding the record at just over 600,000 concurrent viewers during a match with rapper Drake, or 667,000 if you count a Fortnite exhibition match later that year.
Additionally, that number would bring Ocasio-Cortez's Among Us stream into the top 20 biggest streams on Twitch, when compared to metrics from TwitchTracker.
Ocasio-Cortez's stream consisted of several hours of her playing the game Among Us alongside fellow US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and popular gaming streamers such as Pokimane, Disguised Toasty, DrLupo, HasanAbi, JackSepticEye, Hbomberguy, Valkyrae, and others.
Though most of the stream focused on the game, Ocasio-Cortez also occasionally brought up the upcoming US elections, encouraging viewers to vote.
At the time of this piece's publication, her Twitch channel had accumulated 604,000 followers.
