US military stores still not stocking Medal of Honor

Army & Air Force Exchange Service resolute despite EA dropping playable Taliban

The head of the Army & Air Force Exchange Service stores, which are the sole retail outlets on US army and air force bases around the world, has said it will still not be stocking EA's Medal of Honor, despite the publisher having removed the option to play as Taliban opposition in multiplayer.

The publisher changed the name of the non-US soldiers in multiplayer to 'opposing force' last week after MPs, soldiers and pressure groups accused it of being insensitive to fallen soldiers and glorifying the Taliban.

However, major general Bruce Casella has told Kotaku that the armed forces stores will still not carry the game.

"Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product," he said.

"While we regret any inconvenience this may cause, our position is consistent with the direction stated a month ago. I expect the military families who are authorised to shop the Exchange are aware, and understanding, of the decision not to carry this particular offering."

Medal of Honor remains the most pre-ordered title in the series' history, according to publisher EA.
