"URBAN REIGN(TM)" FIGHTS ITS WAY TO GOLD
Clean Up the Streets Alongside Guest Characters from "TEKKEN(R)" Series in No-Holds Barred Brawler
SANTA CLARA, Calif., (August 22, 2005) - Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Hometek Inc. announced today that "Urban ReignTM" has gone gold for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. A hard-hitting street brawler, the game allows players to duke it out against tough street gangs with or against their friends in a wide array of multiplayer modes featuring more than 60 playable characters, including guest fighters from the legendary "TEKKEN®" series. "Urban Reign" will make its debut in stores this September and is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
The single player mode of "Urban Reign" follows "tough guy for hire" Brad Hawk as he carries out his orders to protect a prominent gang boss in the city of Green Harbor. Fighting through the game's 100 missions alone or with a computer-controlled partner, Brad will uncover a trail of corruption and deception that spans throughout Green Harbor. As a street brawler, Brad knows there is no such thing as a fair fight and will use any means necessary to achieve victory - including a vicious assortment of battle-tested fighting styles, double-team attacks and weapons such as shovels, bottles, pipes and bats to beat the enemy into submission. Fighting alone is no easy task, as partners come into play allowing the player to pull off fantastic double-team moves. The player can send enemies flying through the air as their partners catch and slam them onto the concrete.
Players can also challenge their friends to intense multiplayer matches in "Urban Reign," using the PlayStation 2 multitap to get up to four players into the fray at once. More than 60 unique characters - each a master of their own respective fighting style - are available for use in the game's gritty environments, complete with obstacles and destructible objects. Multiplayer game modes include head-to-head and team brawls, Weapon Battle mode in which characters try to hold onto one weapon for as long as possible to claim victory, and Destruction Battle mode in which teams fight the clock and each other in an attempt to destroy their enemy's object.
"'Urban Reign' is a fighting fan's dream - with a slew of characters to master, 100 missions to complete and four-player multiplayer mayhem for endless replayability," said Yoshi Niki, business unit director at Namco Hometek Inc. "We have taken our expertise in the fighting genre to create something wholly different and unique to offer fighting fans and all gamers a game that anybody can pick up and play. "
Taking a respite from their quests to claim victory in the King of Iron Fist Tournament, "TEKKEN" characters Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law make guest appearances in "Urban Reign." Players can fight as, or alongside, Paul or Marshall in the game's free or challenge modes or take them into battle against their friends in multiplayer matches, complete with trademark attacks straight from the "TEKKEN" series.
