TIGA's Dr. Richard Wilson meets Scottish politicians.

The Chief Executive of TIGA, (the trade association representing the UK computer and video games industry) Dr. Richard Wilson has today (7 thOctober) met with the Secretary of State for Scotland, alongside the Labour MP for Dundee West, Jim McGovern, the SNP MSP for Dundee West, Joe Fitzpatrick and the Principal of Abertay University, Professor Bernard King CBE. The meeting took place to discuss supporting the Scottish games industry, including the number one priority of the introduction of Games Tax Relief.

This meeting is less than a week before the Scottish Affairs Committee starts to take oral evidence on the contribution of the video games industry to the Scottish economy with Dr. Richard Wilson as its first witness.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA said:

“TIGA is committed to ensuring that the Scottish games industry continues to compete on the international stage. Scotland is a fantastic producer of video games and plays an important role in the success of the industry across the UK.

“We had a productive meeting where we put forward our views to the Secretary of State on how the Scottish games industry can be supported including the number one priority of introducing Games Tax Relief. This tax change remains vital in ensuring that the UK can compete with other countries who currently offer tax breaks, such as Canada.

“TIGA would like to pay tribute to Abertay University and its Principal, Professor Bernard King CBE, for the significant contribution they continually make to the video games sector. Furthermore, both Jim McGovern MP and Joe Fitzpatrick MSP have been excellent supporters of the video games industry and they continue to offer an invaluable contribution to pursuing the necessary regulatory changes to support the sector.”
