UK Charts: Codemasters' Brian Lara is UK's first Cricket No.1

Codemasters' Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 has stepped up to the number one position in this week's UK sales charts, making it into the first cricket title ever to top the ranking since its origin in 1997.

Taking the top spot in its second week on sale - up one place from last week's number two - Brian Lara displaces Activision's movie-licensed Madagascar, which falls to number two, just ahead of another Activision movie tie-in, Fantastic 4, which holds firm at number three.

It's not just Brian Lara that makes this into a successful week for Codies, however; the company also scores the only new entry in the entire UK top 40, with Worms 4: Mayhem debuting at number 25 in the ranking.

The biggest climber of the week is, perhaps unsurprisingly, another movie license - namely Take Two's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which bounces up from last week's number 16 to this week's number five thanks to the launch of the Johnny Depp starring movie.

Next week seems unlikely to bring with it any major changes to the list, with no new releases of any note; in fact, Liquid Games' Sprint Car Challenge on PS2 is the only console title making an appearance, according to our release list, alongside Aurora Watching, Coffee Break, Great Invasions and International Cricket Captain Ashes Year 2005 on PC.
