UGO to buy 1UP Network - report

But EGM magazine not included in deal

UGO Entertainment is close to finalising a deal to buy Ziff Davis' 1UP Network, according to a report by Joystiq.

The print edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly would not be included in the deal, said Joystiq, suggesting the February edition of the magazine may be the last one on newstands. Editorial staff have already been informed of the deal, said the site.

The report suggests that the Ziff Davis sites will retain their branding and independence, rather than reforming under the UGO Entertainment Network label.

Last month, chief executive of Ziff Davis, Jason Young, questioned the future of print magazines after closing the long-running PC Magazine.

"The viability for us to continue to publish in print just isn't there anymore," he said.

The 1UP Network includes 1UP.com, GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com and GameTab.com.
