Ubisoft signs western rights for new DS Lunar title

French publisher Ubisoft has signed the first new title in the popular Lunar franchise in ten years, a Nintendo DS exclusive game which will be launched in North America this September, with a European release still to be confirmed.

Lunar: Dragon Song takes place a thousand years after the events of the first game in the series, Lunar: Silver Star, and will utilise a number of the special features of the DS - such as wireless play, and the ability to issue certain commands to characters using the built in microphone.

The game, which perhaps unsurprisingly sees a band of young adventurers setting out to save the world of Lunar from evil forces, also features a new Light and Dark enemy system which allows players to transform Dark enemy creatures into Light beings.

The game is being developed by Japan Art Media (JAM) in conjunction with GameArts. European plans for the title are expected to emerge shortly.
