Ubisoft hiring hundreds for flagship Montreal studio

French publisher Ubisoft has announced that it plans to hire some 200 additional staff for its flagship development location in Montreal, Canada, with the bulk of the new positions being in the core skilled roles of programming, design and art.

French publisher Ubisoft has announced that it plans to hire some 200 additional staff for its flagship development location in Montreal, Canada, with the bulk of the new positions being in the core skilled roles of programming, design and art.

The Montreal studio currently employs over 600 staff, and has been responsible for key titles in the company's recent portfolio including the massively successful Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.

Ubisoft's move to hire such a significant number of new staff is a reflection of the publisher's success over the past couple of years - which have seen the firm producing a string of commercial hits and critically acclaimed titles based largely on established IP such as the Tom Clancy license, Rayman and Prince of Persia.

The company's attempts to found new franchises with original IP have been less successful, however - and while the likes of Beyond Good & Evil and XIII were well received critically, few of it's forays into new IP creation over the past few years have been particularly fruitful in a commercial sense.
