Two million sign up for Call Of Duty: Elite beta
Shooter's subscription service attracts massive response
Two million gamers have registered for the Call Of Duty: Elite beta in just two weeks.
Dan Amrich, journalist turned Activision social media manager, announced the news on his blog One Of Swords, and despite the large numbers already signed up, encouraged more gamers to register.
"Two million volunteers among 30 million Call of Duty players is a small amount. More would be even better," he said. The live beta will begin on July 14.
Elite, a new service for the successful Call Of Duty franchise developed by Beachhead, is currently confirmed for both Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops. It will offer both free and paid for content to subscribers, including stat tracking, early access to DLC packs and social networking services.
The response suggests that initial concern from gamers over charges for extra content hasn't affected interest in the product. Activision has yet to announce pricing details for the full service, which launches alongside the release of Modern Warfare 3 on November 11.
