Toy Story 3 still leads UK sales charts

Second consecutive week at the top for Disney, as Madden squeezes into 10th

Disney and Toy Story 3 have enjoyed a second consecutive week at the top of the UK weekly sales chart, with Madden NFL 11 the only other new release.

It is actually the third non-consecutive number one for Toy Story 3, with the game's initial run at the top interrupted by the release of StarCraft II. Although generally well reviewed for a film tie-in, it is the less critically-acclaimed Nintendo DS version of Toy Story 3 that has performed the best.

The DS version is the only one in the individual format top 10, at number eight, with 36 per cent of all sales this week. The PlayStation 3 version, which features some exclusive content, accounts for 22 per cent of sales, with the Wii version on 20 per cent, and the Xbox 360 version on 17 per cent.

The only new entry in the top 40 this week is Madden NFL 11 at number 10. The title's success in the UK often has more to do with the sport's current popularity than the game itself - although this year it has only been release on 360 and PS3, instead of also on the Wii. As a result it fell short of the 2009 title's debut at number eight.

The fastest mover of the week is Nintendo's Touch! Generations release Art Academy on DS. The title has followed the usual pattern of Nintendo releases with a modest first week followed by a surge in sales in the second week, in this case as much as 205 per cent.

As a result Art Academy rose from 28 to number five in the all formats chart, and as high as number two in the individual format charts - behind only Ubisoft's Dance On Broadway for the Wii.

The UK all formats top 10, week ending 14 August 2010:

  • 1 Toy Story 3 (Disney)
  • 2 Red Dead Redemption (Rockstar)
  • 3 Dance On Broadway (Ubisoft)
  • 4 Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Warner Bros.)
  • 5 Art Academy (Nintendo)
  • 6 Just Dance (Ubisoft)
  • 7 Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (Square Enix)
  • 8 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision)
  • 9 Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Nintendo)
  • 10 Madden NFL 11 (EA)
