Tomb Raider to arrive on mobiles next month
Exclusive deal signed with Orange UK
Eidos Interactive has confirmed that Lara Croft's latest adventure will be available for a variety of handsets from December.
Tomb Raider: Legend has already been a hit on PC and consoles, and the mobile version is said to emulate that gameplay and cinematic action. As Lara, players can jump, roll, climb and shoot their way around 3D environments.
An exclusive licensing deal means that in the UK, the game will only be available through Orange until the start of 2007.
"The mobile phone is the biggest selling games platform in the UK, with people regularly enjoying action and strategy games for entertainment," said Eidos's new media and IT director, Simon Protheroe.
"Now that handsets offer such improved performance, we are able to provide a more immersive gaming experience for the mobile generation."
Lara Croft first made her debut more than a decade ago and went on to become one of the most famous videogame characters of all time. To date, more than 30 million Tomb Raider games have been sold around the globe.
