TIGA turns 10

UK trade association celebrates its 10th anniversary.

TIGA was founded on January 24, 2001 by a small group of independent developers, with the aim of building an organisation to represent the interests of the UK development community. The founding members of TIGA included Jason Kingsley from Rebellion, Phillip Oliver from Blitz Games Studios, Ian Baverstock, John Chasey, Jez San, Ed Daly, James Cox, Fred Hasson, Vincent Scheurer and Osborne Clarke.

Today TIGA represents over 140 UK organisations. Today’s members are still mainly independent developers, but TIGA now also represents publisher-owned studios, creative agencies, games publishers, art, audio and motion capture specialists, as well as law firms, accountancy firms and other service providers. TIGA also has 25 education providers as members.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said:

“TIGA is an organisation with a mission: to fight for the interests of game developers and to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. TIGA has made great progress over the last 10 years. We have strengthened the video games industry’s political influence; achieved high levels of positive coverage about the UK industry; and delivered new and improved services for our members. On behalf of TIGA I would like to thank all of our members and partners for their support over the last decade.”

Jason Kingsley, TIGA Chairman and CEO and Creative Director of Rebellion, said:

“TIGA has changed dramatically over recent years and we have exciting plans for 2011. TIGA was built on the rock of serving the needs of game developers and this remains the case today. On behalf of the TIGA board I would like to thank the individual organisations that make up TIGA’s membership. TIGA exists to serve you. We are proud to have advanced your interests over the last decade and we will be zealous in working for you in the years ahead.”

About TIGA:

TIGA is the trade association representing the UK’s games industry. The majority of our members are either independent games developers or in-house publisher owned developers. We also have games publishers, outsourcing companies, technology businesses and universities amongst our membership. TIGA was awarded ‘Trade Association of the Year’ and the ‘Member Recruitment Award’ at the Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards 2010. TIGA has also been named as a finalist in the 2010 Chartered Management Institute (CMI) National Management and Leadership Awards in the category of ‘The Outstanding Organisation of the Year Award (SME)’. TIGA is an ‘Investors in People’ accredited organisation.

TIGA's vision is to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business.  We focus on three sets of activities: political representation, generating media coverage and developing services that enhance the competitiveness of our members.  This means that TIGA members are effectively represented in the corridors of power, their voice is heard in the media and they receive benefits that make a material difference to their businesses, including a reduction in costs and improved commercial opportunities.
